Contemporary Bedroom Furniture Sets: Buying the Right Storage

Contemporary Bedroom Furniture Sets: Buying the Right Storage

Do you want to rid your bedroom of clutter? As with your kitchen, it would be worth listing what you need to store in your bedroom and then working out how much space is required. If you are starting from scratch, opt for contemporary bedroom furniture sets. If there are storage areas already  in place, you can coat them  with fresh paint and update their interior fittings to improve their  look.

Fully fitted and walk-in wardrobes

  • Most bedrooms will benefit from fitted furniture. By hiring a good designer, it should be easy to solve problems of awkward angles, non-proportional walls and uneven alcoves for a sleek and uniform appearance.

  • Even when fitted sections are restricted to one wall, it will still give ample hanging and shelf space.

  • L-shaped bedrooms can be split into wardrobe and sleeping areas. Depending on the layout, you can have a door that leads to a walk-in wardrobe with open rails and shelves beyond, or just a separate space with a traditional wardrobe like the Dark Walnut Currant Five Drawer Chest by Greenington.

Underbed storage

  • Never underestimate the value of the space under your bed. Even when your bedroom has enough cupboards, forgotten bags and shoes are usually stored in such areas, so it would make sense to properly utilize  all available space.

  • Conventional bedstands can be teamed with sturdy under-bed baskets, or large drawers with castors.

  • Divan beds like the Cassidy Washed Teak Full Size Storage Bed by Powell are very useful. Pick one with a plain fabric cover so you not have to use a valance sheet and you can easily reach the drawers.

  • One new idea is the lift-up bed, where the whole base is raised to reveal a storage area the size of the bed. It is more disruptive than drawers but should be an excellent place to store out-of-season blankets and quilts.

Freestanding wardrobes and drawers

  • We are currently seeing a trend for low and horizontal chests of drawers. They are best for storing bulky items like big jumpers and blankets.

  • Low and wide drawers can be used for handbags and shoes. If your floor space is limited, consider getting narrow and tall chests that comes with lots of drawers like the Mixed Taupe Reclaimed Solid Wood 6 Drawer Accent Chest by Monarch Specialties. They are great for smaller items like lingerie and T-shirts.

  • Freestanding wardrobes might not be as popular as before, but they are still a great choice for period homes with alcoves on either side of a chimney breast. Along with bedside drawers, they should cover most of your storage needs.
